I cannot stop laughing. A reason for my good mood is totally unexpected. I went to Rufino Tamayo Museum today. Rufino Tamayo was the most famous mexican artist, born here in Oaxaca. Through his life he collected many pre-Columbian art, and donated them all to people of Oaxaca and this museum. As I mentioned before I’m not into archeological sites, ancient art so it was not on my priority list of the places to visit. Like with Monte Alban I was surprised… again. What a treat it was!
There are only five rooms. Visually, with a different colour of background in each room, it was so pleasing to my eye that I just flowed from one room to other with a huge smile and appreciation for both museum itself and artefacts. All pieces are inspired by pre-Columbian religions and myths but … I don’t know maybe it’s my weird perception, but for me they all looked like cartoon creatures. I could see them very clearly in the modern game on play station 5, or whatever kids play these days! Everything about those figures was hilarious! And no, I’m not on any drugs, and in the last month I’ve probably had 5 beers in total! Their faces expression, body structure, posture just made me laugh. Please bear in mind those pieces were created 3000 years ago! Is this how people looked like back then? The artist had to take an inspiration from somewhere..?
It was a huge pleasure be introduced the this collection. I think I’m going to follow this trend, and even though I have no interest whatsoever in a history of local fabrics I will go to a textile museum as well. I prefer the current crafts but…you never know:)
Anyway it was a joy! Love them all:))))
